The community obtained a fund to build a desalination plant and the companies provided technical knowledge to ensure a good result in its construction and additional financing so that the plant can grow in terms of power generation and ensure greater water production.

The activity, held at Los Burros Sur sector, in the Freirina commune, was attended by the award-winning community, representatives of the companies EDF Renewables, LAP and the Ibereólica Renovables Group that participated in this project, amoung others.

«We are very happy to be able to be in the commune of Freirina today to give them the first place and share with the community. We want to highlight initiatives like these where good practices are seen jointly developed by communities, associated companies and other relevant actors in the territory. The energy transition is also lived in the territories and that is to generate shared value between all local actors. We have to be good neighbors,” said Claudio Seebach, executive president of Generadoras de Chile.

The program –which won first place in the contest “Good practices for a more sustainable electricity future”, organized by Generadoras de Chile– was highlighted by the jury for the synergy of multiple actors (wind farms, the Government, the municipality, Seremia and the community ) that together improved access to basic welfare services and contributed to boosting the productive conditions of the inhabitants of the sector.

“For EDF Renewables Chile it is a pride to receive this recognition, the result of the collaboration between the various actors present in this territory. It seems to us that initiatives such as the ones awarded today are an example of how companies should insert themselves into communities, trying to contribute to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the sector. Since 2018 we have been present in the commune of Freirina, and since then we have been building what is today a very close relationship with the communities of Caleta Los Burros Sur, a characteristic that is part of the DNA of EDF Renewables and its projects in the country”, said Jean-Christophe Puech, CEO of EDF Renewables Chile.

“For Latin América Power, its commitment to sustainability is a fundamental pillar for analyzing scenarios and making decisions. In this sense, given that the San Juan Wind Farm is located in an area of great environmental value and where there are communities made up mainly of algueros and fishermen, first of all, we have tried to be respectful of their culture, values and traditions, to forge a bond of trust and join us as one more neighbor. Along with this, we have been proactively involved with the dynamics of local development, to ensure that the social investments we make are significant and of value in the long term, and I believe that this is the key to the recognition that Generadoras de Chile gives us, in the consistency of our work and the good results that they have yielded for the community of Los Burros Sur and the other neighbors around us,” said Diego Hollweck, general manager of LAP.
